guestroom is currently one of the artists in residence at grizedale arts.
grizedale is situated in the rural area of the lake district in the north west of england, a region known for the beauty of its landscape, its national park being a popular tourist destination,
as well as testing ground for various movements that have settled here, such as the legacy of john ruskin and william wordsworth.
originally a traditional sculpture park and residency programme, grizedale today is a complex environment for contemplating artistic practice and its place, as well as
a working farm overlooking coniston lake, geographically sandwiched between the ideologies of the national trust, the forestry commission and the bordering ruskin estate.

ruskin archive, coniston, 2007
as part of our research for agrifashionistas we went to see vicky slowe, the director of the ruskin museum in coniston. she showed us around the ruskin archive housed
in the museum, also giving us an introduction to ruskin's work and similarities she saw in the ideas of grizedale.
we also spoke to adam sutherland, the director of grizedale arts about his interest in collecting and the unusual collection forming at lawson park.

examples of the grizedale collection, lawson park, 2007
the grizedale collection is a collection of arts and crafts objects housed at lawson park, selected according to site-specific criteria (such local design or the notion of authenticity).
the idea is that the collection is in use at the farm, its meaning not necessarily apparent unless the information is saught from the website, the point being also that the
collection on a simple level is just stuff, adding silently to the meaning of the context. what is part of the collection and what constitutes it in general, where and how it starts and ends becomes increasingly blurred.
